FAQs

What is hybrid publishing?

Hybrid publishing blends the best parts of traditional and self-publishing. Like a traditional press, Liminal House Press provides professional editing, design, marketing support, and distribution. Like self-publishing, you stay in control of your creative vision and share in the profits.

It’s a partnership—not a pay-to-print service and not a vanity press. We invest in you, and we build success together.

How does Liminal House differ from other hybrid presses?

We’re author-first and Kickstarter-funded. That means we work to minimize or eliminate upfront costs by crowdfunding production.

Every decision—from cover art to campaign design—is collaborative. We only succeed if your book does.

Who can submit to Liminal House?

We publish marginalized and underrepresented authors writing speculative fiction: fantasy, horror, sci-fi, and genre-bending works.

We’re especially interested in queer, neurodivergent, disabled, and BIPOC voices.

What does it cost to publish with you?

Our baseline publishing path uses Kickstarter to fund editing, design, and printing.

You pay nothing up front unless you choose optional add-on services (like advanced editing or premium design). Before we can run a Kickstarter, you will need to provide a cover, but we can gladly discuss budget-friendly options for your book.

Can I submit again if my manuscript isn’t accepted?

Yes! Many great books need a little more polish. We’ll let you know if your work could be a fit later or with revisions.
